Hunger in Lesotho

Lesotho, a landlocked country in southern Africa, faces a significant hunger crisis with far-reaching consequences. Hunger in Lesotho is characterized by high levels of food insecurity and malnutrition, particularly among vulnerable populations such as children, women, and the elderly. Factors such as extreme poverty, limited access to agricultural resources, recurring droughts, and limited diversification of the economy contribute to the severity of the issue. Many households in Lesotho struggle to secure enough food to meet their basic nutritional needs, leading to chronic hunger and stunted growth among children. The situation is further compounded by the impact of HIV/AIDS, which affects a significant portion of the population and increases vulnerability to food insecurity. Addressing the root causes of hunger in Lesotho requires a comprehensive approach that combines efforts to improve agricultural productivity, enhance resilience to climate change, strengthen social safety nets, and ensure equitable access to nutritious food for all segments of the population.
